I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but here goes...

It's Labor Day today, and that means that summer is (unofficially) over. There's a silver lining...fall is a wonderful time of year to get out and enjoy the cool, crisp air and visit some of the great art festivals that take place.

Admittedly, this summer's weather has been challenging at times for outdoor events. It seemed as though if liquid wasn't falling from the sky, its vaporized cousin accompanied plenty of heat. There were a few very pleasant days that somehow happened to converge with a weekend, though, and hopefully many more to come this fall.

My schedule has pretty much solidified for the remainder of the year with six events on the calendar (Red Wing is still tentative). This is a great time of the year to start thinking about any redecorating you want to get done before the upcoming holiday season.

Many thanks to everyone who has visited us at an art festival this year! It has been an interesting season with regard to weather, but overall, the year has been a good one. We have fully recovered from that powerful storm back in mid-June in Excelsior that walloped our booth.

It's now summer in the northern hemisphere and, outside of a little stormy weather (see below), our art festival season has been off to a great start! It's been a pleasure seeing so many familiar faces already this year. The next several weeks take us to communities in greater Minnesota, Wisconsin, and North Dakota. Here in Minnesota, the early flowers are blooming and tree buds are swelling. Spring is in the air, and that means outdoor art festival season is just weeks away! This year's art fair schedule is gearing up to be very similar to last year's, with a couple of differences. Most notably, I will be returning this year to the Old Capitol Art Fair in Springfield, Illinois, which is less than a month away. Panther Creek Falls – Gifford Pinchot National Forest, Washington, USA

This is possibly one of most beautiful waterfalls I have had the chance to experience and photograph! Its "fan" shape and setting deep within a lush, mossy gorge make this falls truly spectacular and refreshing! There is a viewing platform that overlooks the falls from above, but reaching this vantage point at the base of the falls required scrambling down a steep slope.

This image is not "quite" finished yet (I'm still tweaking a few details), but I anticipate it will be available when art fair season begins!

I know, I know! It's hard to believe that in less than a month, we will be in the midst of fall color season here in Minnesota and the Upper Midwest. For me, it's even harder to believe that I'll be packing up my outdoor art fair canopy, for the last time this year, in just a little over three weeks.

Art at Ramsey

The 2014 art fair season is nearly complete, and it has been a great one! Thank you for supporting my work! There is still one more chance to come and visit (and get a good deal...more about that below).

I wasn't expecting to be making another announcement so soon, but I wanted to let you know about a last-minute addition to my show schedule. This Thursday through Sunday, November 13-16, I will have a booth (indoors, of course) at the Autumn Festival at Canterbury Park in Shakopee, MN. The hours of the event are Thursday and Friday 11am-9pm, Saturday 9am-7pm, and Sunday 10am-5pm. My booth number is 133.

My photograph "Lake Effect" was recently juried into the 2013 Minnesota State Fair Fine Arts Exhibition.

I made this image on a -10°F morning at Brighton Beach in Duluth. This photograph portrays the sun peering through the fog that rises from Lake Superior when the air temperature falls to well-below the lake's surface temperature.

The State Fair's Fine Arts Exhibition, open for the duration of the fair, features the works of Minnesota artists in a variety of media. It is located in the Fine Arts Center, just north of the 4-H building on the east side of the fairgrounds.

Typically, about 15% of artwork submitted each year to this juried competition is selected for display. The last, and only other, time I've exhibited in this show was in 2010 when my image "Watchdogs of the Prairie" was selected for display.

If you go to the Minnesota State Fair, be sure to check out the works of the many talented artists on exhibit in the Fine Arts Center!
