Spring Art Fair Schedule and A Few New Images

Spring greetings everyone!

Before I get into the main content of this brief newsletter, I want to take a moment to thank everyone who has and continues to invest in my work as a fine art photographer. Preparing my tax returns for 2016 has reminded me how remarkably successful the last year has been for us. I am truly grateful that so many people, like you, take an interest in and value the work I create. Surely, Uncle Sam will be happy too! :)

The art fair schedule gets off to an early start this year, with our first event, 60 Artists on 50th, held at Burroughs Community School in southwest Minneapolis on Saturday, April 1st—no fooling! The schedule below represents what's happening through mid-June. The May events are currently tentative, and any changes will be announced as they occur. A more complete schedule for the summer will be announced within the next month at www.northshoreimages.com/Schedule and in a separate newsletter.

Spring 2017 Art Fairs

Yes, they did misspell my name. ;-)

New Images

"Superior Awakening" – near Hovland, Minnesota, USA

This is an image that I kept under wraps for several months, and I am happy to finally let it see the light of day.

I've photographed this secluded bay and island on Lake Superior's North Shore a few times before making this image last October. On one of my attempts several years ago, I witnessed a glorious sunrise...only to discover that my lone camera battery had died. I now carry five batteries with me so that you don't miss an opportunity to experience the beauty nature shares with me!

"Lunar Light II" – Split Rock Lighthouse State Park, Minnesota, USA

Those of you who have followed my work for some time know that I regularly make the trip to Split Rock Lighthouse each January to photograph the full moon rising behind the cliff and lighthouse. This year, mostly clear skies prevailed, resulting in this scene with Earth's shadow (known as the Belt of Venus) casting a slight pinkish glow in the upper sky of this image.

This also happens to be the first landscape image made with my new Canon 5D Mark IV camera body. It replaces my 8-year old Canon 5D Mark II and represents many of the latest advancements in imaging technology. One interesting feature is the ability to send an image captured with the camera directly to a smartphone for editing and sharing with the world, all within minutes of pressing the shutter button! I look forward to getting out in the field with it more and sharing new images with you as we head into spring!
